Interviewing Frank Iero part 1

Before I start telling this story, I will have you know that I didn’t record or video any of this. I didn’t have someone to hold the camera and I also thought it was kind of rude to shove a camera into his face so soon after the gig. Which also means that Frank’s responses to my questions are not the exact words he said, it’s what I think I remember he said. When I know for a 100% certain those are the exact words he said, I’ll type them in italics.
When my sentences end with “..”, that’s when he cuts me off in my sentence, just to be clear.
Another thing is that, Frank said thank you to me a lot. Now I know that those two words might seem repetitive after a while, but they don’t when he’s telling you. Close your eyes for a second and imagine Frank Iero looking into your eyes genuinely grateful for whatever it is you told him and then hear him say thank you. I guarantee you it never gets boring.
Frank walked into the room with a glass of coke in his hand and flashed a cheeky grin at me, followed by:”Hi! I like the sign you made”.
Me, the moron that I am:”Hi..I made it just for you! (hello captain obvious) How are you?”
Frank:”I’m good, you?”
Me:”I’m great, the show was amazing!”
Frank:”Aw, thank you so much!
He then came over to me, shook my hand and hugged me. He sat down next to me, and I told him why I wanted to have this interview, that I was getting up with the same questions over and over again, and that I knew they (the guys) were getting bored of it too. He said it was a cool idea, and then we got started.
Me:”So, to start things off, how do you pronounce your last name?”
Frank:”Oh it’s eye-ear-oh. Have you got a pen or something so I can write it down?”
Me: “Oh, I’ve got it written here on my card so I can just underline it.”
Frank:”Ah you’ve got it written down, that works.
Me: “It’s kind of a thing going ‘round in the fanbase, no one knows how to pronounce your last name. I’ve always thought it was eye-air-oh, just because it sounds more Italian to me.”
Frank:”Oh, well it was probably pronounced differently back in Italy, but when my family came over to America, this is what it became.

Me:”Okay, so next question.. You’re an arachnophobic right?”
Frank:”Yes, kinda.”
Me:”So what’s the deal with the spider on the album cover? Did it freak you out? Did you even have any say in it, or were they just like, no this is it.”
Frank:”Well ya know the thing is.. I’m afraid of scorpions too, and I’ve got a tattoo of that so.. Anything that’s got a lot of creepy legs freaks me out. But the thing with the spider is, it’s about the contamination. It’s like venom, infiltration, those sort of things. So it doesn’t really freak me out.”
Me:”Okay so this next question, well it’s more of a question for Gerard, because he writes the lyrics..”
Frank:”Right.
Me:”But I figured I could ask you as well seeing as you know, you’re in the band.”
Frank:”Ha, yeah.”
Me:”In Bulletproof Heart he sings about Jenny. But why Jenny? Because I know a lot of bands use Jenny in their songs. You’ve got Cut Me Up Jenny by Taking Back Sunday..
Frank:”Right.”
Me:”The Killers have got Jenny Was a Friend of Mine.”
Frank:”And *insert band name here* had *insert song name here*. Oh and the Killers had that one song.”
Me:”Jenny Was a Friend of Mine” (way to pay attention Frank)
Frank:”Yeah that’s it. Well it’s basically that, just continuing the other bands, continuing that name.”
Me:”I know Adam has said that it’s just every girl, like your average girl..”
Frank:”Right.”
Me:”So is it the same with Johnny?”
Frank:”Yeah exactly. It’s just every man. Or woman.”
