DESDE LAS ZONAS :
I was lucky enough to get my hands on two tickets for the video shoot last night. I have attached some of my photographs. Lots of people have been asking about exactly what happen so I thought I would give a first hand account of the night.
I got there at about 6 and there was quite a few peolpe queueing already. As we waited some camera peolpe came past filming the crowd and a couple of people who were dressed the most crazily had their pictures taken. The doors opened at around 7.10 and slowly we started to get in. Me and my mate got in at about 7.30 and so we ran to the stage and tried to get as close as possible. The tiny stage had the same world contamination tour set up with the spider banner, painted amplifies, Gerard's yellow and red microphone and of course Mikey's Kobra Kid Helmet.
The atmosphere was amazing and then Ray, Frank, Mikey and Gerard walked along the balcony above the stage. It was increbidly exciting. After about 10 more minutes the light went down and MCR walked on stage along with James and Michael; and started playing Na Na Na. The place went mental! And I managed to squeeze my way to the front, right in between Ray and Gerard. Next they played Vampire Money and Ray's solo was epic. Gerard then thanked us all for coming along and helping with the video and explained that it was going to be similar to Teenagers and Desolation Row with shots of the Band performing and the crowd. He also said that they had a mini setlist planned and that after they would start filming. He then asked if we wanted them to play House of Wolves or Our Lady of Sorrows and pretty much everyone wanted OLOS so they played it for us. It was beautiful. Next they played Teenagers which really added to the party atmosphere. I'm Not Okay was next and it was an amazing moment, there was a massive sense of community, and I remembered discovering this song and MCR. They then played Helena and Gerard started with the usual WOOOHOOOO sing along. Right after that they played Bulletproof Heart which quite surprising as I hadn't heard it live before. It was beautiful. Then of course they played Planetary (GO!) and Gerard explained how lyrically it captured exactly what the band had been going through and stated that when people try and clean you up "you've got to be dirty about it". There was loads of confetti released and the entire place was electric with energy and movement.
MCR then went off the stage for a break and then the director of the video, Michael (not Pedicone, I'm not sure what his surname was), got on stage and told us what was going to happen next. He told us that they were going to play Planetary through the sound system a couple of times and that they where going to film the crowd singing along and moshing to it. The crowd were handed out ray guns, masks, helmets and some guy was even given a Panda Head to wear. I got a mask like the one Gerard has in the Na Na Na video.
There were five different camera people filming each using a different type of camera. The director had a massive movie camera with a strobe light on, they was a guy with a vintage camera, another with a SLR with a weird lens, a women who I think was taking paneramic shots and another girl with a hand held camcorder. They filmed us for two plays of the song.
Then MCR came back on stage and said that they were going to play and sing along to the track as it played through the sound system. They were filmed for 3 plays of the song and whilst this was happening loads of multicoloured baloons were released from above the crowd as well as silver and gold confetti. There was a guy with a leaf blower trying to keep the confetti in the air.
Once the director was pleased with the footage the camera's were put away and MCR played one more song for us. They played Vampires Will Never Hurt You and it was totally epic! EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT! Unfortunately then they had say goodbye. The roadie's threw out picks into the crowd and I was maganed to catch the setlist!
It was the best experience of my life, the gig was so intimate, only 800 people, and I was right at the front with my best friend! It still hasn't sunk in yet. It was so surreal. Check out my youtube account, I've uploaded a couple of videos from the front which I am pretty proud of despite that they are a bit wobbly lol.
